Support us Find a fundraiser's page Running for Greg and Robert Donate In 2007 Greg, completed the London Marathon for the second time, in honour of his teenage son Robert who passed away after battling Aplastic Anaemia in 2002. Greg had a dream that one day, he would run a marathon with his sons, Martin and Adam, in Robert’s memory. One hip replacement later and this isn’t possible for Greg anymore - but as he turns 70 this year we wanted to give him a priceless gift. We are getting our running shoes on to celebrate Robert and Greg’s love of sporting achievement as he turns the big Seven O. What we are doing; 19th April - Martin, Adam, Lil, Lucy and Greg will be running the Holkham Half Marathon 26th April - Adam will be running the London Marathon What is aplastic anaemia?Aplastic anaemia is a rare and life threatening condition caused by the bone marrow not functioning properly. In people with aplastic anaemia, the bone marrow fails to produce enough of all three types of blood cells – red, white and platelets.Aplastic anaemia treatment is very similar to the treatment someone might have for leukaemia - but because it's so rare, families often don't have access to the same information and support. The Aplastic Anaemia Trust is the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by aplastic anaemia and funding research into this rare form of bone marrow failure. By donation you'll be helping celebrate Greg's 70th and... Providing support for people affected by aplastic anaemia. The AAT are determined that anyone facing a diagnosis will have someone available to talk to about it - someone who understands what they’re going through. Funding some really exciting research, which means a way forward towards more treatment options, and a deeper understanding of which patients will respond to which treatment. By enabling research and improving treatment for aplastic anaemia, means that in the future no-one has to lose someone they love to this condition.
