Events Research consultation - would you like to support this research proposal? Dr Mike Spencer Chapman from Wellcome Sanger Institute is preparing an application to a large cancer research charity to fund a research fellowship to explore the genetics of rare bone marrow failure - and he needs our help! Last year, Professor Alan Warren shared with us the fascinating findings from the preliminary research The Aplastic Anaemia Trust funded to examine the genetics of stem cells in patients with aplastic anaemia and PNH. This application, if successful, would allow that exploration to continue and could help to... Find out more about cancer initiation in AA patients, enabling us to predict and prepare that small percentage of patients who might be at risk of developing cancer later on Classify different types of aplastic anaemia at diagnosis, by discovering the genetic differences This could enable us to predict which patients would respond to different treatments - so people don't have to go through difficult treatments if they are unlikely to be successful By looking at the stem cells that survive the initial attack by the immune system, we could learn more about the nature of that immune system attack - potentially giving us new information about the root causes of aplastic anaemia By funding a fellowship in AA, this would also support the first priority identified in The Aplastic Anaemia Trust's Research Priorities Paper - fuelling the careers of new generation experts in rare bone marrow failure. How you can help Please join Dr Chapman and our team for this meeting, where he will explain the funding he is applying for, and what he hopes it will achieve. Sign up for the event below and you'll receive a link to join on Zoom. After the meeting, we'll send you a short online form to complete, where you can share your thoughts about the proposal. You can fill this in anonymously if you'd like! You can also call us to complete it over the phone. We'll use your input to shape the proposal and your quotes to help communicate the potential impact for patients. An apology about timings We'd love to have given you more notice about this event, and more time to complete the form, but the application deadline is very soon so we need to move quickly. If you can't make this meeting don't worry - we will give you another opportunity to learn about this project if the proposal is successful!
