This February, post your pals some Super Rare biscuits and meet up online for a cup of tea and a chat. You'll be helping us to spread the word about aplastic anaemia and raise funds to support people with this super rare disease.

How to take part

1. Pick a date
Invite your friends to join you, in person or on video call for
tea and biscuits. You could host your chat on Rare Disease Day, which is on 28 February.

2. Create a fundraising page.
Ask your friends to donate to support people with aplastic anaemia. Let them know that if they donate, you will send them some special biscuits!

3. Bake some biscuits and post them to your friends in advance.
Sharing the same thing to eat on a video call helps you feel closer together, more like having a cuppa together in real life. Try our recipe for Super Rare Biscuits below - they're rare because of the unusual ingredient - avocado! (You can keep this a secret, and see if your friends can guess the secret ingredient when you see them on the call.)

4. Have a chat.
At your event and on your social media channels, tell your friends a little about aplastic anaemia. Our social media posts are a great starting point, featuring some of the most important messages that aa patients told us they wanted people to hear. You could also share a link to your page on Rare Disease Day, to encourage extra donations from your network.

5. If you've raised over £150 - contact us for your free t-shirt!

When you've raised £150 on your fundraising page, we'll send you a free Super Rare t-shirt!

Email a link to your fundraising page to Ellie at edawes@theaat.org.uk. Let us know your preferred t-shirt design and size, and the address for us to send your t-shirt to you.

Offline fundraising is fine too! Just post the cheque to our address below, and include your return address and t-shirt size to claim your free tee.

Super Rare Biscuits

You will need

1 ripe avocado, finely mashed  (if you prefer, you can swap this for 60g butter)

100g sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

50g dark cocoa powder

60 g 70% dark chocolate chunks

40g flour

½ teaspoon baking soda

Make your biscuits

1. Preheat oven to 350°F / 150°C / Gas Mark 2.

2. Combine the finely mashed avocado, sugar, egg and vanilla extract in a medium-sized bowl.

3. In a separate bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, and baking soda.

4. Mix together the wet and dry ingredients until just combined.

5. Gently stir in the dark chocolate chunks.

6. Add a tablespoon of dough on to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Flatten the top a little bit.

7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the top has set (don’t over-bake!). Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes on the baking tray. Then transfer to a cooling rack.

8. When your biscuits are cool, wrap them well in kitchen roll and then tissue paper or bubble wrap, and post to your friends!
